GI Joe movie news

Looking to get into pre-production a little later this year, it would help the film adaptation of GI Joe to have a script in place. And Stuart Beattie is looking to remedy that lack of script problem. IESB is re-reporting (they reported this a week ago, and now bigger avenues of reporting are coming up with it now) that Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Collateral) has been brought on to write the script for the new movie in the works. And this isn't just him coming along to tweak an existing script...no, he's completely rewriting it. The idea is to set it in the not-so-distant future, and stay away from any current terrorist/war stories happening in the world. Apparently, there are already two scripts in place. One script is too Bourne-like (which isn't necessary a bad thing), while the other is too cartoony (and compared to the big screen version of Street Fighter, which is a bad thing). This complete rewrite looks to find a happy medium between the two scripts. This also means that the newly created Action Man most likely will not find his way into the story. Production is slated to begin in early 2008. Go write Joe!
