Dynamite Entertainment acquires Dabel Bros. titles

Industry mergers are always interesting beasts. While not everyone is nearly as fascinating as Disney/Marvel, those lesser mergers are just as vital to getting good comics into your eagerly opened hands. A recent acquisition of Dabel Bros. titles by Dynamite Entertainment could be pretty infleuntial in getting said comics into your hands. As a result of the purchase Dynamite will immediately assume creative development, production, printing, marketing and sales for all titles handled by Dabel Brothers Publishing. This control covers books currently being produced as well as those in the pipeline and not yet announced. Even the Dabel Bros. graphic novels will be published by Dynamite and distributed by Diamond Book Distributors. "We look forward to working with all of the distinguished authors on their great works and helping to bring them to a larger audience," stated Dynamite President, Nick Barrucci. You may be wondering what sort of shenanigans Dynamite Entertainment is getting into when it comes to Dabel Bros. Dabel Bros. has been known as a publisher of comics in the science fiction and fantasy genres and made a splash in 2003 with an adaptation of George R.R. Martin's The Headge Knight. That was the Les and Ernst Dabel founded company's first claim to fame, only to be exceeded by their second launch: Marvel's Anita Blake. The titles sold by Dabel Bros. have done fairly well but they seem to have been faced with management woes as partnerships with Marvel, Image and Devil's Due Publishing all ended abruptly. The first Dabel Bros. books under Dynamite Entertainment will be shipping in April 2010 with subsequent titles shipping thereafter. Full press release below.
