Chris Evans IS Captain America

The long, national nightmare to find a chiseled, American actor to portray Steve Rogers/Captain America in Marvel's slate of films is over. After a long and immense casting search (I think I was even associated with the role at one point), Hitfix is confirming (via sources) that the role has been offered to Chris Evans. Chris Evans of Human Torch fame in Fantastic Four. I can't say I'm upset with the casting, but I'm not sure if I'm completely enthused by it. Not because I don't think Evans can pull it off, but because of continuity. Evans has already portrayed Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and obviously being Cap pretty much precludes him from being considered for that role in future Fantastic Four films. He could pull a Ryan Reynolds, who is playing both the Flash and Deadpool, but that's not entirely the same thing since I think it'll be a cold day in hell before the two of them are in a film together. In any case, if this rumor pans out then at least we know we're on step closer to the film actually happening. Honestly, I would've gone for David Boreanz because he can pull off the superhero/soldier role really well (his role in Bones as Agent Booth is actually pretty good). I'm not Kevin Feige though, and I'm not getting paid big bucks to shepard Marvel's marquis characters towards a continuous universe on film. Congrats to Evans.

  1. what? No ryan reynolds!?
a peculiar choice for sure probably indicative that there aren't that many actors suitable for the role right now-A decade ago Brad Pitt might have been a good, commercial choice for the role-possibly Val Kilmer as well, also the guy who played Harvey Dent in Dark Knight (and David Boreanz might be in this category)-Now they all are too old
-The Hurt Locker lead Jeremy Remmer (SP?) is too old as is the guy who is the Human Target-both would have been good picks a few years ago-again, too old for a young GI

The other weird thing is that Evans seems so "modern" and I have a hard time imagining him in a period piece which I gather this film will be at least in part-Channing Tatum has more of an old fashioned look as does John Krankaski (again SP?)-I gather that a lot of the fanboys were not enamored of these two guys so that was probably that...

may have also been a $$ issue-also, may have been a bit of a rushed decision since the production is ready to go as I understand it...
again, very strange choice-I would have liked to have seen an offbeat actor like Peter Saarsgard get a shot at this kind of thing...maybe he will have a shot at the Green Arrow...

also, I gather this is a 9 picture deal! Not sure what the thinking behind this is either...
