The first Wednesday of March...is pretty unceremonious when you think about it. A few days away from Daylight Savings Time, when we skip ahead and continue on our lives (hopefully our internal calendars don't get f'ed up like
PS3s did). Assuming you're with it enough to get your time straight, I'd recommend when making your weekly trip to the comic shop to pick up
First Wave #1, a title that I'm pretty stoked about.
Omnicomic previewed this issue yesterday, and in a few words it's chock full of awesomeness. Brian Azzarello and Rags Morales are teaming up to bring the start of DC's pulp universe with the unlikely team of Batman, The Spirit and Doc Savage. The Golden Tree cabal has taken heart in the aftermath of the War, but now Doc Savage and The Spirit have taken note of their ambitions. Oh, and Batman is thrown in for good measure, but his brash, cocky self won't be making an appearance until some mysterious time.
The fantastic thing about this trio is that they're all mortal (more or less). They can't rely on super strength, mutant powers or anything else of the sort. Instead, they've got to rely on what got them where they are: intelligence, fighting ability and sheer grit. First Wave #1 is the first of a six-issue miniseries that has the potential to be really, really cool.
