Preview - Superman: Earth One

J. Michael Straczynski and Shane Davis felt that Superman needs to be redefined for the 21st century. We need to get the iconic image of him lifting the car above his head as a show of strength and start picturing him flying through the air with a Bluetooth headset in his ear, iPod clipped on his tights and a direct link into Batman's computer in the Batcave. Ok, maybe not the headset piece.

Superman: Earth One is the first original graphic novel retelling Superman’s origin. Clark Kent is looking for a new life in a new city surrounded by the vices of the day: handheld devices and instant gratification. It's actually an interesting proposal and means of updating Superman for today. I mean, I'm guessing that Clark wouldn't be getting a job at the Daily Planet these days in the newsroom. Unless they have an online news site that would most likely charge Metropolis customers to access their news beyond the paywall. Hey, times are touch, even in comic cities.

Check out some interiors after the jump. The book should be in stores in October.
