Defense with the BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight after being bitten and partially cured to walk as a half-zombie among them.)

Busy week.

After losing the main party of bandits that were attempting to tail me, I continued on towards another one of their outposts that seemed to be an armory for them. Fighting a war isn’t easy, especially when running low on the supplies and I need to get some more ammo and explosives to aid in my journey.

The information off the map I snagged from those bandits indicates the place I'm aiming to hit has all that and more for the taking with a few vehicles to boot. With there being so much gear I couldn’t possibly take, I'll stash a good bit in another location for safe keeping as you never know when it will come in handy. This will leave the rest and the base itself to be opened up to zombies and blown to--hell a fitting solution I say.

I did get a bit of good news as well this past week. While I was making my way through the countryside I spotted a small town with what looked like a huge radio tower dotting the skyline. The town was practically deserted, save a few zombies here and there milling about, but they didn’t bother me as I moved through the town.

There were two of those radioactive zombies that got a bit of a jump on me while I was moving down a side street, requiring me to get up close and personal in dispatching them using a knife to their brains. After that encounter I double timed it to the radio station and found their generator was still in working order. It only needed a bit of gas to get some power up and running for the place.

Using the equipment there I was able to boost the signal on my gear and picked up some news from places I haven’t heard about in a long time. News out of the government stronghold in the Northeast is that they're still holding out and settling more refugees that are flowing in from their coastal processing centers. They've had problems in some of the cities with most of the region around Boston blocked off and it's still too risky to resettle there.

Other than that trouble spot, they are keeping strong in the Northeast and repelling a number of zombie attacks on their fortifications with none breaking through yet. The bad news is with the amount of things on their plate, the forces based there aren’t able to do much help beyond their walls, currently leaving anyone out there fending for themselves.

I did make contact with them and warned them about the huge bandit groups that have been terrorizing and enslaving other survivors in this region. Sadly, my warnings are to no avail as to when they might be able to bomb the hell out of them or send any aid that might help survivors out there fend them off. Just goes to show you that you have to rely on yourself and your group to see that you survive; let trust be earned not given. You trust the wrong person and you can end up dead, captured by bandits--or worse--turned into a zombie.

I'm going to finish setting up a few defenses and camp out here for a bit, to rest up, clean my gear and continue to catch up on the news. Will report more on what I hear next week. Until then keep surviving.
