Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight after being bitten and partially cured to walk as a half-zombie among them.)

I'm tired.

It’s been a constant streak of fighting, running, hiding and counting every minute alive to be pure luck. We managed to lose the last bit of that herd group that split off after us when it hit both the bandits and us. It took us the whole week to get back to our camp and behind the safety of our electrified fences, which none in the group thought we would see again.

We hid out in a boarded up Costco for about three days, waiting out this one group of zombies. Consdiering the amount of time (presumably years) that passed between the last time it was open and now there was actually a good bit of merchandise in the store. All the food was either gone or bad, but there was still a few canned goods left on the shelves and loads of clothing items. Even found a generator that we got running and had some power to watch a DVD to kill some time waiting.

Sneaking out of there wasn’t so tough since we used an old forklift to blow through the front entrance, plowing through the zombies there in the process. After sneaking out the back door, it took us another day and a half to get back to the camp. Still don’t know how those bandits fared against the rest of that horde chasing them.

While we were on the move we didn’t see any of them following since their own hands were damn full of zombies trying to eat them. In our flight back we tried to maintain some level of secrecy so they couldn’t track us back, but that can only go so far when zombies are after you.

The people we left here were a bit freaked to see us make it back alive. Once back we slept for a few hours and then went to work on our defenses, camouflaging our location in case they do manage to make it this way. Thinking it might be too soon to move on myself and leave this spot to the survivors who have made it here and are making it work. I've been around too many of these survivor camps that look good, but something bad always happens.

It never fails…
