Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.

Attics have become my new best friend. Especially the ones in houses that were redone into a nice living space and not full of rafters and insulation.

Ever since that accident flipped me out of my vehicle and set me on the run from a pack of zombies, I’ve just constantly been running and hiding. I just could not find a spot to allow me some healing time and able to rest up and sleep. These zombies have just been on me nonstop; I would kill some when I could, but more just kept on taking their place.

A few days ago I managed to get enough distance between me and the tailing zombie horde to lose them. Took a shortcut through some gardens and found an open window into a basement of this house. Slid through there and sealed it up tight and held my breath for a good bit waiting to see if I would have some company.

I must have waited about half an hour to an hour watching that window; not moving just, watching and waiting. Almost passed out from exhaustion a few times, but eventually made my way slowly up the stairs into the main house to take a look around, making sure I was alone. Went throughout the entire house, checking windows and doors and making sure there aren’t any ways into the place so I can finally take a minute to rest and heal up.

Took all the furniture as slowly as I could and piled it up in front of the doors(just an added precaution). Went upstairs scouting out a good spot to defend and heal up when I noticed a door off to the side leading up to the attic. This place was set up nicely with a fridge, big couches and a bathroom. I was able to clean up, although the water was ice cold, still felt damn good and got some rest knowing I wouldn’t get attacked if I went to sleep. I'm still hiding out in the attic now as whoever lived here had a nicely stocked pantry that somehow was not raided over the subsequent years since the zombies first hit.

I'll probably stay here for as long as I can to heal up before moving on, as being alone on the road with little weapons or gear I need to have all my senses and wits about me. Being off your game is a recipe for disaster when zombies are all around. I don’t think I've eaten so much beans and canned corn in my life, but damned if it doesn’t taste awesome now after eating nuts and leaves or whatever else I could find to give me energy.

Few more days...
