Review - Charismagic Vol. 2 #2

Magic. Magic is everywhere. Some people can control it and others bring it with them when they come through a portal hellbent on destroying earth. Aspen Comics has that and more in Charismagic Vol. 2 #2.

The issue is written by Vince Hernandez, illustrated by Vincenzo Cucca, inked by Mark Roslan, colored by Emilio Lopez and lettered by Josh Reed.

Bad magic is on its way and it's up to Hank, Sudana and the crew to save the day. While Sudana is dabbling in theater with a new fairy named Haven, Hank is going to find an artifact needed to save the world. Meanwhile, Torgan has been awakened and is after the same artifact. With everyone vying for power and trying to rule the planet, things are getting more and more dangerous for all involved.

Any quest involving magic usually involves an artifact of some type, which means that Hernandez doesn't disappoint in the second issue. He does mix in something new in the way of new characters, further fleshing out the Charismagic universe. The stakes seem to be same as the first volume though, with the only difference at this point being the big bad looking to make their mark. Torgen is impressive as a new enemy though and Hector and Alle may be having doubts about their new roles in the grand scheme of things.

Cucca's art is pretty good. Torgan is illustrated as a wildly magical lion, full of flames and anger. Haven is a lot more diminutive, but looks to be equally as powerful. Panel layouts are fairly normal, with most of them appearing to pop off the page. There are a few full-page panels that really emphasize the magic at play and Sudana maintains her attractiveness during the fighting. Some of her renderings are a little distracting, but by and large it's not that bad.

Charismagic Vol. 2 #2 continues the latest saga for all the magic on Earth. The story is fairly interesting and promises to throw everyone in even crazier situations than they've dealt with in the past. Hector and Alle are still factoring in, with Hector showing glimpses of realizing the situation he's in. Hank is more comfortable with his role and there's hope the group can save the day, although that saving might be very, very complicated.

Charismagic Vol. 2 #2 should be in stores June 5 with interiors below.
