Defense With The BoomStick

(Defense With The BoomStick Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)

Still in Ash Fork, Arizona and I still have some zombies out searching for me. Over the past week I've been constantly moving from building to building, staying one step ahead of the zombie pack that’s following me. I've managed to whittle their numbers down a few, but I still have a good number searching for me. With the intensity of their hunt it's safe to say there aren’t any other survivors in this town.

That's good for me, as I have a better chance of moving about quietly and finding useful supplies since a good amount of stuff was left behind. I haven’t been able to search them all, but I've ran past a few markets and gas stations that are sure to have some canned goods or bottled water left in them. Since that I made a beeline for the sheriff’s station thinking it could be a good spot to hold out against the zombie pack, but I was in for a surprise.

Upon arriving at the station I found out it’s a trailer that will not offer much of anything in the way of defense. What it did offer was a few boxes of ammo for a pump action shotgun I found in the back of a gun case.

I grabbed the ammo and gun and got out of there fast. I ran between a row of houses and toward what looked like a library. This place was a lot more solid in structure and--from the looks of the windows--someone tried to hold up here before or at least it was boarded up to keep people out. I staked the place out for a day or two, just watching for zombies and eventually saw some head past the sheriff’s office. I still don’t know how they are following me or keeping such good track of me. When I get a chance I'll take a shower and scrub every part of me clean see if that helps as the water has to be running around here somewhere.

One thing I did find useful in the library was a town map that lays out exactly where I might have a better shot of finding things to aid me. From the local high school to markets to lumber supplies, this town has a good bit of useful stuff. I wonder how bad the outbreak hit here for all the people to have left. Hell, maybe they just bugged out as the zombie plague swept closer and closer this way. A small town like this wouldn’t have had many cases on their own, but it would be people passing through that would bring it here.

Before I can even take a crack and any of the possible supplies I might be able to find I need to take care of that zombie pack hunting me down. With the shotgun I can knock down the pack if they get close, but cannot guarantee any headshots unless I let them get really close. I will have to set some traps or somehow find a working car or truck with a way to get the gas clean and just mow them down with that. Gotta come up with something though.
