(Defense With The BoomStick Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)
Even when there aren’t zombies around, bad things still happen...I found that out of the hard way. I was using one of the electric golf carts to move some supplies to a safe house I had setup and managed to miss a huge hole, flipping the cart in the process. This sent my supplies flying and me scrapping and scratching as the cart slid down the road. I lucked out in that no major injuries came about, but there were plenty of cuts, bruises and broken supplies.
I'm still in this small town, gathering all the supplies I can find. It’s kinda shocking the amount of supplies that were left in this town when the people bugged out. Maybe they got hit fast and hard or didn’t think the zombie threat was serious to them at all. With their proximity to Flagstaff, the stories of people eating other people must have reached them here. After almost five years since the outbreak started these are not the questions to be asking, as there is nobody around to answer them.
From what I've managed to learn reading reports left at the Sheriff’s station and the library, they knew it was happening, but they weren’t really taking steps to protect this town. It was a small town of maybe a thousand or so people that appeared to have just had to abandon the whole place in a hurry. The only damage to the whole town has been the stuff I did in fighting that pack of zombies following me. Otherwise, no burnt out buildings, gunshot holes, burning cars...nothing, which is something you do not see as most places have something to show a battle or stand was made.
The longer I stick around here the worse the feeling I get that something will happen and I won't be able to get out. I'll give myself another half week of gathering up supplies and replacing the stuff I lost in that accident. I've lingered far too long and fear more zombies from Flagstaff or the town I left before this will eventually head this way. If that were to happen I'll be screwed, as there's no spot anywhere in this town that can withstand a horde of zombies.
When you let yourself become complacent mistakes are made and your guard gets dropped. That's when the zombies will finally get you. Always gotta have your A game going at all times.
