Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)

Year 5. Week 14.

One of the most boring weeks that could've happened in the zombie world has happened. Nothing but driving, resting when we can and staying alert for zombies that just aren't there. All we’ve seen around us is empty land and not a single zombie with miles of road ahead of us to go.

There have been a few small towns that we went through; not much to any of as most have seen a bit of fighting reflected by buildings and burned out structures. We had hopes that this far up in the mountains some of these places might have been spared or at least seen limited zombie attention. Of course after five years it just might as well have been other survivors fighting each other; with limited supplies and not a lot of people growing food it's becoming dangerous out there and not just from zombies.

We're finally over the border into Nevada and up in the forest near the Topaz Lake. There's this little community we are holed up in that suits our needs and has quick escape routes should we need them. Plus being this close to freshwater is so freaking awesome. We can drink it, clean our clothes and shower. It may be cold as ice, but still feels damn good to do.

Now that we're in Nevada our end goal cannot be too far away from us. According to the map we have, so long as we keep following 395 it will take us all the way to Reno. Only hitch in that plan is Carson City sits on 395 too and there's no telling what sort of problems or amount of zombies we'll run into there. Plus with the desert ahead we're going to need as much water we can carry. It may be winter hitting, but it still gets hot during the day and we can’t risk our car overheating out here.

After we get to Reno we have no idea on the next plan of action we're going to take. It all depends on what we find there and what condition it’s in. Who knows...it may all just be a pile of junk that I've wasted that last few months striving to get too. Not sure what's in our future.
