Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)

Year 5. Week 31.

It feels good to take the fight to the zombies' front door; not so good to have them bring it to ours. After evacuating the camp near Reno and firebombing the hell out of that place, we met up with the other forces near Carson City. The forces have all amassed on the western side of the city, with another smaller force on the south side that will be bait to lure zombies out of the city. Once any large group of zombies head out then we'll do a clean sweep in blowing everything in our path.

I don’t think I've seen a force of survivors this large in I don’t know how many years. We have about a hundred vehicles from tanks, humvees, armored carriers and a mixed assortment of other non-military vehicles that are equally armored and reinforced as well. There are about five hundred or so survivors ready to go in there and do some damage to kill every zombie we come across. To do this with no hesitation or qualms about what we are shooting down was the case when the world was first falling into chaos.

This time around it’s going to be a different fight with a different outcome for both sides. The plan is to use the small group in the south as bait to draw out the zombies then as they retreat have a portion of the government air support given to us to bomb the zombies that are out in the open. While they are occupied we're going to come flying in from the west, using the heavy artillery to bomb buildings and the path ahead of us.

We're going to move in fast, efficient and in force. The key is to stick together; be a solid line with reserves ready to move up front during reloads. On top of boots on the ground with our vehicle support the other half of the government air support is going to be doing bombing runs on other parts of the city. Additionally, having gunships flying over top of us feeding us intel about zombie movements so we don’t get flanked or overwhelmed will be helpful. Maybe--just maybe--we can find the rest of those prisoners that we couldn't rescue the last time we came through here.

With this fight we can change the way rest of this war turns out. Taking out so many zombies--especially those radioactive smart bastard ones--will allow all survivors here in North America a bit more freedom. After clearing them all we can turn our sights to heading south and taking the fight to zombies all over. Now that's a war that will be fought not just by us, but will have to be fought with every survivor we find. Getting everyone working together and a gun in their hand to aid the fight. Finally, after over five years of running and hiding we turn this war in our favor.
