Monsters and Titans Showcases The Art of Battling Boy

Paul Pope's Battling Boy was met with much fanfare in 2013, debuting in a highly anticipated fashion to a fanatic audience. It makes sense that the book would debut at #1 on The New York Times bestseller list for graphic novels. Now that Pope is taking his art on the road in a touring exhibition, it's rational that original art from that tour has been reproduced for the show's companion book, Monsters and titans: Battling Boy on Tour.

Presented as they look on the drawing board, without clean-up or colors, Pope’s inked pages are accompanied by the artist’s commentary (in English, French, and Italian) on his influences and process. Also included are character designs, concept art, and even Pope’s lettering test for Battling Boy, giving readers meaningful insight into the creation process behind a bestselling graphic novel. The Battling Boy touring exhibition wrapped up at the Society of Illustrators in December 2013 and will be moving on to Italy and France in 2014.

Monsters and titans: Battling Boy on Tour is a 9” x 12” paperback book and will be in comic book stores on March 26 and in bookstores on April 8. Full press release below.
