Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)

Year 5. Week 45.

Back before the zombie outbreak and ensuing apocalypse the NSA wasn’t the best part of the US government because spying on anyone and everyone didn’t do too much good in the eyes of the regular citizen. Now with most infrastructures long gone, I'm glad the NSA was here to put in place the hardware they did. Since finding their huge data center outside of Salt Lake City we’ve had a chance to explore more and found a treasure trove of information.

Hidden away in a command room was a control setup for a number of satellites that the NSA had put up just before the world fell into chaos. The amazing fact is that they are still up and running, providing better data feeds than the ones the government forces based in Washington have access to. With these babies we're covering a whole hell of a lot more cities and towns than we could have accomplished on foot. Right now everything is coming up Milhouse.

Using this new edge we’ve scanned our immediate area in a concentric circle patter to check for immediate threats. From there next up is to begin moving the satellites around to scan the major cities that still remain. If there are zombies building up somewhere, larger cities are where they would be, with so many places to hide and ambush unsuspecting survivors who might go through. That could take some time since a lot of the larger cities didn’t get destroyed in the southeast and on the Gulf of Mexico, so they'll need to be scanned thoroughly. Our plan of having a force head east to continue the search is put on hold with this new tool we now have.

I’ve gotta say it's amazing how resilient the technology is to have survived this long in a functioning manner. Being able to use it will definitely save us time as well as our lives. While the search goes on we've continued to entrench ourselves here, improving the defenses and exploring what's located here. The way things are going this location is going to be our stronghold in the midwest. It’s becoming secure enough to withstand any attack that could get thrown at it, whether it be zombies, marauders or what have you. Once again that optimism is spreading among us here and the goal of taking back what was lost from the zombies could be on the horizon.

Over the years it’s been a tough task of remaining optimistic with this journal. From the original broadcasts back when I was in North Dakota trying to help others survivor to my own travels and troubles. Every one of us has been on a long and often horrible journey that hopefully is going to have a better ending than what we might of imagined ages ago.
