Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living in this zombie world.)

Year 6. Week 11.

You go incommunicado for a week and all hell breaks loose.

Yesterday we finally got back in touch with the outpost in Kansas City, as well as the other two teams who left when we did. It was an issue with our radio that was causing all the problems, but upon hearing the news of what transpired glad it’s back up and running. The Kansas City outpost had a huge zombie attack hit it and turned into a prolonged battle that lasted for about a day and half. The walls were never breached thankfully, but some folks did lose their lives though in the fighting.

I guess what happened is some zombies got a hold of a few fighters when a firing post we built onto the wall collapsed that spilled them down into the street. They were set upon by zombies, but that group of zombies didn’t have long to revel in their kill as they were quickly blown all to hell. Sometimes, it’s the little things of tossing a couple grenades into a pack of zombies and watching them fly all over the place after the booms.
From the reports we've been receiving, it was a fight for the ages with the ways the zombies kept on coming. They feared ammo would run out before the zombies did and only through their determination and sheer will of not becoming a zombie did they prevail. Plus, it helped to have a few bombs dropped from air support. Not sure what outcome might have come out of the fight if that support didn’t arrive in time. Probably be another lost outpost and more survivors dead and with the state we're in, every living body counts.

On our side things haven’t been going as smoothly as originally planned. Finding the planes went ok with there being about five working planes and fuel for a number of flights after these. Getting airborne wasn’t a problem and doing our original scouting went well also. Although, I gotta say that zombie horde must have seen the planes scouting or were just far enough out that we didn’t see them when scouting. That's only way I can think they were able to get the drop on the outpost. You have to give it to the zombies: they're definitely getting smarter or at least fighting differently than in years prior.

When we did hear about the attack we immediately turned back towards Kansas City to go help out, but were told to continue on. They had it all under control and it would waste fuel to fly back just to turn around and head back this way again. Right now, the three of us in this plane are heading to Tennessee in search of a specific area. I have to say I felt dumb never thinking about these places after the zombie apocalypse hit to search for supplies as they would have everything. I'm not talking about any warehouse store or such; I mean an Amazon warehouse.

Those things had everything under the sun you could think of and the ability to ship it out on a moment’s notice. If there are supplies we could use that's the place we are going to find it. We're going to start following the interstates and see if we can find large warehouses or truck stops and look for clues as to exactly where the warehouse is. It’s not like we have an internet to search for these type of things anymore. Hell, when we do find one depending on the condition of the fences around it we can turn one of those into a new outpost. Lots to do this next week and it’s going to be a lot of searching for this warehouse and other spots.
