Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. This is my story of survival)

Year 6. Week 17.

The time has come for our final fight. If we had more time help would arrive, but that's a luxury we're not afforded. No, for us our day has come today. Soon after I finish this entry, fate will decide for the two of us. All the planning, plotting and preparation that has been completed has gives us a chance at making it out of the fight alive.

Right now we're in a small, one-road town waiting for the fight to begin, but also waiting and hoping help will arrive. One of the buildings here had a radio we got working and used it to call in backup from Kansas City. The downside is they are hours away and the fight is gonna go down sooner. A person can only run so far and so long before reaching the point where you know if you go one step further it will end in ruin. We reached that point a day or two ago and decided to fight on our terms in a place of our choosing. With the work we’ve done and traps we’ve set it’s either gonna work like gangbusters or we're going to go down in glory. Too bad if we do go down in glory; there’ll be nobody around to see it but us two.

Using the time we were afforded we set up all manner of traps. From pitfalls, tripwires, deadweight ones; basically anything and everything we could possibly setup. That is really the only manner of defense we have, with each of us sporting only half a clip each for the pistols we have and maybe twenty shells for the shotguns we found among the buildings here. Sure the shotguns are going to come in handy, but we have to be careful on the ammo front and use only when absolute necessary.

Most of this battle is going to be running through our gauntlet of traps and leading the zombies on a chase. We'll only resort to melee attacks if we get trapped or need to lure the zombies on. I can remember tough battles in the past and always had that feeling that no matter what it’s going to turn out fine. This time I cannot say I have that same feeling. We've accepted this fact and it doesn’t change the need for this to go down. Our only hope is the fight takes long enough for our backup to arrive and get us the hell out of there.

Now it’s all just a waiting game in our first position looking towards the horizon. Our maze is set up, allowing them only one way in so as they cannot flank us. The fight is here and the fight will be rough. I just hope we have the ability to make it through.
