Hank McCoy (Before the Fur)

Finally got a chance to watch X-Men: Origins: Wolverine. Meh. Wasn’t bad. Wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad. Just too many mutants without a real reason behind them being there, you know? I’ve been wanting to see a lot of these characters in an X-Men movie for a while… But why can’t everyone just take a cue from The Dark Knight- that is, if it ain’t broke, don’t FIX IT. Why change a good thing? What I always think hurts comic book movies is trying to cram in too many ideas from too many different eras of a comic book. So, it’s sort of like, let’s try to tell a story that’s going to appeal to the fans who read this comic book fifteen years ago and who are reading it now. Well, how much do you want to bet that the people who were reading the damn thing fifteen years ago still ARE the people reading it now? I mean sure, not everyone, but… I’ll tell you the X-Men movie I want to see: Storm’s the leader, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Rogue and Colossus are her back up (and yes, Colossus will have spoken lines), and Kitty Pryde- X-Man in training- is the main character. This, to me, is the truly ‘classic’ line-up that made X-Men into the comic it is today. Also, I’m just not into the whole ‘in the prequel these two characters actually-almost-met years before the original movie take place, although by the time the original movie happens all memory of this chance-meeting will be swept away and they won’t recognize each other, like R2-D2 and Darth Vader’ kind of thing. So that whole bit with the school and Cyclops…just not doing it for me. I have to give them credit for digging deep into Weapon X lore and pulling out character’s like Wraith and Silverfox, even Deadpool…but Frost? Gambit? Blob? Yes, I like seeing them in a movie. But just to have them in the movie? For the hell of it? I mean, sure, I can see them mixed up in the whole Weapon X business…it isn’t implausible… But why not just write them in as they frickin’ were, huh? I want to see Frost, Sebastian Shaw, and the Hellfire club. I want to see Mystique’s brotherhood- Blob, Pyro, Avalanche…Destiny. And for crying out loud- I want to see some Sentinels! And some severed robot head in a Danger Room sequence just doesn’t hack it. I want the full on, evil-apocalyptic-future sentinels. Why not just make Days of Future Past into a movie? I mean, straight-up? Doesn’t that just write itself? You’d think someone, somewhere, would consider this.
