Manga - The Other White Meat

With the holidays looming let's save the suspense and jump right to what happened in the Bleach and Naruto mangas in the past week. It looks like Bleach is back to its old tricks and no one good will ever die. Someone who seemed SUPER powerful is defeated by a side player, and just when things were looking to get interesting…they fizzled. Naruto in the meantime is just getting started with yet another crazy fight for Sasuke. I’ll tell you what, if Naruto doesn’t start either training or fighting some people Sasuke will be untouchable by the time their seemingly fated battle happens. So…for some quick but informative reviews of the action in more detail, read on! BLEACH So last week we left off with Aizen facing off against Shinji while Komamaru tried to battle Tousen in his released form. In chapter 386 we pick up right where that left off. Apparently that form is that of a rather grotesque looking fly or mosquito. Tousen, who has been blind for his whole life, spends a bit of time screaming and laughing about being able to see. He insults the fact that Komamaru is really a giant rodent, and then unleashes a crazy attack that essentially destroys the captain’s bankai. Since Komamaru takes the same damage that his bankai does, this essentially blasts his chest open. Much of the fight consists of Komamaru discussing how he feels about Tousen, but I’m just starting to wonder if people just don’t know where they are going with fights, and are stalling. So…just when I thought Komamaru was about to get finished, who should show up but Hisagi, someone with no business being in the fight. Hisagi gets the drop on Tousen and decimates him. Tousen dies, I just don’t get it. He was SUPER powerful and Hisagi shouldn’t have been able to touch him. I say this only because there have been several times in this series where people have been unable to cut others because their reiatsu was so much higher then their own. I guess this is just an ability where certain people who specialize in battle can just harden their skin with their reiatsu. I suppose Hisagi was so weak in comparison that Tousen just couldn’t detect him through his own crazy outburst of power. My guess is that next Shinji and Aizen will begin to fight and Ichigo will show up. I’m not sure who former Captain Gin is going to fight. I’m pretty sure he’ll be a badass. This chapter dashed my hopes that SOMEONE who was a central figure in this manga would die. Oh well…such is life. NARUTO In chapter 476 we open with Madara watching the battle begin between Sasuke and Danzo, one of the village elders who ordered the destruction of Sasuke’s former clan and life. Danzo hasn’t yet revealed the power of all the sharingan eyes in his right arm, only stating that they have their purpose. Danzo attacks head on, only to run into Sasuke’s defense that he obtained after his fight with Itachi, Susanoo. It is the ultimate defense. In the meantime Naruto hyperventilates and nearly passes out trying to figure out what he will do about Sasuke. Kakashi sends out his ninja hounds to inform everyone of what has taken place since they are fast and effective message carriers. Kakashi knows it would be suicide for Sakura to face off against Sasuke so he intends to go after her. Danzo in the meantime admits to ordering the destruction of the Uchiha clan, and Sasuke appears to basically turn him into a puddle in anger afterwards. It appears that it was all just a genjitsu illusion though, as Danzo appears perfectly unharmed forming a seal a ways away from Sasuke. Sasuke is very surprised as well. Perhaps the power of that many sharingan really can make him super powerful. To be honest…Sasuke is in over his head, just like he was when he attacked the leaders of every ninja village at the same time. I’m sure Madara will step in to save him if necessary. This was a good chapter. I love that there is always a trick in these battles. There will be at least two or three more little shocking twists before it is all said and done. It has all the unpredictability that Bleach currently lacks. Until next time…
