Marvel unveils Philip K. Dick's Electric Ant #1

If I were Philip K. Dick and I was in my heyday writing crazy stories about robots running the world I would think I was able to see the future. Prescient even. Clearly, my stories would include things about robots that are inching closer and closer to becoming reality. One minor oversight on my part though would be foreseeing all my literary works becoming adapted into comic books, the latest of which by Marvel in Electric Ant. Electric Ant #1 hits stores in April and is created by David Mack and Pascal Alixe with a Paul Pope cover (Brian Michael Bendis was thrown in for good measure). In it, Garson Poole has a great life, job, apartment...even the sexy assistant of his dreams. Things are going fantastic until he makes a visit to the hospital and finds that he has in him an "Electric Ant" that is programmed to serve a specific function. Cue tailspin as a result of learning the truth about its programming. “Philip K Dick is one of the most groundbreaking sci-fi authors ever and we’re honored to bring his stories to life at Marvel,” said Joe Quesada, Chief Creative Officer & Editor-in-Chief, Marvel Entertainment. “Electric Ant is an extraordinary interpretation of Philip K. Dick’s classic short story, one that I’m sure all fans will enjoy.” Marvel is the second publisher (that I'm aware of) to adapt Dick's works into comics. Boom! Studios is currently running Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep which has been met with critical acclaim. And Dick has an excellent track record when it comes to this stuff so, considering the source material, I have a feeling that Electric Ant #1 will be the start of something awesome. Full press release and interiors after the jump.
