Megan Fox Playing Red Sonja

Last we checked, the Robert Rodriquez helmed Red Sonja was making its way along over at its studio. Rose McGowan was cast in the lead, Douglas Aarniokoski was attached to direct and the film was in the pipeline. Granted, at SXSW Rodriguez himself indicated that the process may not be moving nearly as well as he would've hoped.

“If I kept the project myself, we could’ve just made it, but it belonged to another company that had financing problems,” said Rodriguez of what’s been holding up Red Sonja. “They had to wait until they made a couple of other movies first,” he explained. “They’re actually waiting until they make the Conan movie before they do that - to see how that works for them.”

So they're waiting for Conan. That's ok though, because McGowan should be there when the film is ready to play the lead role. Yeah, not so much anymore it seems, according to a story on Pajiba. According to them, Megan Fox has been offered the part.
The rumor of an offer to Fox comes on the heels that the original remake of the original has been scrapped. This would mean that Aarniokoski, and McGowan are both out with the new studio most likely wanting a new direction. Fox being offered the role is strictly rumor at this point and is quite intriguing to say the least. As the article points out, Fox hasn't really been very successful outside of the Transformers films. Jennifer's Body was pretty much a flop and her success in Jonah Hex remains to be seen.

Personally, I think she could do a pretty decent Red Sonja. The role would require a certain amount of combat training and I could see Fox getting into the role. This would be a massive role for her career if she fully commits to it and could be a turning point for everyone's perception of her as an actress. If they bring someone else along to rewrite David N. White's script and tailor it to Fox, the film could be pretty awesome. Rodriguez would be able to get a lot out of her in the role, as long as she commits herself to it.

Or the movie can bomb miserably and everyone will go back to hating on Fox.
