Defense with the BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is set in a world where zombies have taken over and people live in small spots all over the world. It’s a weekly broadcast of news from around the globe and a tip to help survival.)

Monday again and I'm still tired as hell. It’s been one of those weeks with nonstop zombie attacks and, honestly, I don’t know where they're coming from. We thought with the frost and snow still on the ground there wouldn’t be any real big zombie attacks, but I guess that warm air that came through thawed enough to come searching. Haven’t used the normal tricks to take care of them as fire just isn’t burning so well and because of their numbers we can’t trigger some of the traps as they would just be ineffective. At the moment it looks like we are not in too much danger of a breach again and the walls are holding so we do have time for the news and tip.

First up in the news. Word comes from Alaska where they have been documenting the zombie sightings there. Remarkably, some parts of the state haven’t seen a zombie for months now making the possibility that the far north is the only real safe place to settle. Some villages and more remote small towns are allowing survivors to head their way and are planning on sending parties down south to find people also. They've gotten supplies from the forces remaining in New England in addition to supplies from Canadian outposts, keeping everyone supplied in the regions. Any survivors heading to the northern regions of Alaska should aim for Eielson Air Force Base to land planes and stow there. Further transport is provided to get you and your gear to a more secure destination.

Now tip time. Tip today will be on close-quarter combat with zombies and ways to help you stay alive.

Say you are in a house doing a search for anything useful and come across a zombie in your path. Sure, you're carrying a weapon of some sorts so you can use that. If you don’t happen to have a silent weapon or a melee one then you are gonna have to use something in the house to get the job done. Depending on what room of the house you are in look for a chair you can break to get some legs off of to beat the zombie with; if you're in the same room with the zombie break the chair on the zombie.

If you find yourself in the bathroom when a zombie hits first use the shower curtain and get it over the zombie’s head and face to keep its mouth away from you and give you time to find something to bash the head in. One idea that comes to mind is the top of the toilet the heavy lid to smash that zombie head; if nothing else is there to use then you will have to make a run for it using the shower curtain as a distraction.

Getting caught in a bedroom makes it a little tricky as there's usually not a lot of room to move about with a bed taking up most of the room. Same idea does exist here as with the bathroom though, as you can use the bedspread to throw over the zombie giving you the chance to shove it down and make a break for the exit. Another method is to use the spread to blind it and then use a nightstand or drawer from a dresser to smash over its head ending the zombie for good.

That’s all I have for now as we still have zombies to take care of around here. Until next week keep surviving.
