Review - Street Fighter X Tekken: Artworks

Street Fighter is pretty much old enough to drink. Actually, it's more than old enough to drink, considering it first debuted way back 1987. Since then, Capcom has put it through a myriad of alterations, upgrades and crossovers. One of the most anticipated (and recent) crossovers was Street Fighter X Tekken, a game that answered a few relatively timeless questions regarding various epic match-ups.

Capcom and UDON Entertainment have teamed up to release an art book showcasing the art in Street Fighter X Tekken, a title appropriately called Street Fighter X Tekken: Artworks.

The long and the short of the book is a collection of original artwork. The artwork includes promotional art, character art, alternate costumes, not to mention unused designs, stage designs and a ton more.

A lot of the character designs showcase the varying characters from both franchises, providing a glimpse into their fighting styles based on a pose each character is depicted as. All the main players are included, so fans will likely find at least one fighter they're really invested in.

One of the more interesting facets of the book though are the trailer and ending breakdowns. There are screenshots of every ending, breaking down the endings and giving insight into specific scene choices. It's a pretty cool look at the more behind the scenes aspects of game.

Every page though--regardless of content--features some creator commentary. The commentary is incredibly geeky, giving fans a much deeper understanding of the game beyond just the attacks and counters. There's also four extensive interviews adding even more knowledge for fans of the series, giving them a lot to enjoy.

The collection is a great addition to the collection of any Street Fighter or Tekken fan. It will give you some great information about two of the more storied video game franchises right down to some very minute details. Well worth the pick up if you're a fan of either game or just solid art.

The book will set you back $39.99 for a 192-page softcover. Street Fighter X Tekken: Artworks is available for preorder prior to its August 29 release date, with interiors below.
