(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)
Year 5. Week 44.
Salt Lake City was a dead zone.
There was no sort of life anywhere on those streets; zombies, other survivors, animals--hell, not even birds were flying through. It was the eeriest place I've been in. The path through the city took what felt like forever because of the worry an ambush would be around any corner or when venturing into that next building. The whole situation was putting us all in a heightened edge of nervousness and tension that had us jumping at shadows.
Sure, we found signs of people who might have lived here and remnants of battles long since past. We also found some supplies and material we can use to help reinforce a base we are creating here, as we need a new outpost for trade and survivors to pass through as they head west or east. I have to say this outpost we have here is one of the most secure there could be, as it's the old NSA server facility from back before the zombie outbreak. This is where all the data they combed and stored was kept and I have to say the buildings they have above ground pale in comparison to the amount of real estate underground.
It’s simply a massive amount of underground offices, barracks and all manner of armories, garages and more. This place wasn’t just a NSA data storage facility, but a sort of mobile weapons depot that could be deployed if this place came under attack. With the materials we accumulated from the city the walls and fences around here are a lot more secure to withstand an attack. We aren’t exactly advertising that we're here if zombies do come through the area, but we are keeping signs up in case other survivors come through the area and need a safe place to rest up.
From here we plan on getting this place up and running with all the possible routes and openings to get here mapped out. Knowing all the ins and outs of our surrounding environment is essential so we can anticipate where zombies might try to hit us from or surprise us. Once all of those tasks are completed and we get a larger force in here to occupy this new outpost a group of us will head back out again east. We need to keep moving on so we can find where zombies are massing or originating from as they head out west.
There's no telling how many more of those radioactive zombies are still out there. With them still possibly out there and able to control zombies they have to be found and stopped. It will be nice to sleep under a secure roof again, but now we have to get back on the road and find the source. After that maybe we can finally have this world back to just us.
