Jon Favreau really likes Iron Man. He also really likes AC/DC. Going back to the first film, Favreau infused the movie with a pretty heavy dosage of the Australian rockers whose name was actually influenced by a sewing machine. Naturally, you'd expect that Favreau would use them again for the sequel, but not necessaarily in this way.
Marvel Entertainment (in conjunction with Columbia Records) has announced plans to release an album called AC/DC: Iron Man 2 on April 19. The album will include 15 songs spanning 10 of the band's albums. It's a somewhat novel idea, and it really takes the whole "cross-pollination" of business thing to heart.
"Music is an integral part of the Tony Stark and Iron Man experience, and we are pleased that Columbia and AC/DC are taking part in the franchise's phenomenon," said Tim Connors, Marvel Studios' Chief Operating Officer. "Through this relationship, the band is delivering fans supercharged Iron Man branded music through all our combined consumer touch points, from the movie to retail outlets and even virally with the debut of the new video."
Pre-orders for the album are already available at Wal-Mart and Amazon (the Amazon preorder will actually net you a DVD and vinyl as well). The rockers have even shot a new video for "Shoot to Thrill" that has debuted online. It really just blends concert footage with scenes from Iron Man 2 (don't expect to see the film's ending in there).
The music video is below, but you'll have to wait until May 7 to see Iron Man 2.
