Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. This is my story of survival)

Year 6. Week 16.

Southeast Missouri is a vast space of nothingness. That's forced us to keep running without stopping for almost two days straight and caused me to make this entry later than normal. All last week we ran from the horde of zombies hot on our tails. No matter what traps we lay or how many we thin from their ranks, more appear to join their band hunting us down. Only now are we holed up in an abandoned barn, trying to rest and regain some strength before heading out again in a couple of hours.

It’s amazing the amount of ground you can cover when you barely stop to rest. The fact that we are in Missouri already is amazing in itself. If we could find a working radio, a lot of our problems would be solved as we could get a hold of the outpost in Kansas City and get some assistance. The ones we do come across are dead or non-functioning for what we need or just plain junk. About a week ago we did manage to get a car running and that allowed us the lead we have on our pursuit we are currently enjoying.

Unfortunately, the car broke down on us after six hours of driving and we figured that would be ok as we lost the pursuing zombie pack. Man we were wrong. It was later on in the day after the car broke down when we had been resting when what do we see on the horizon but that zombie horde coming our way. I honestly have no clue how they are tracking us or staying on our trail and it's damn creepy that they are; as if they're personally tasked with hunting us down. I know those radioactive zombies are smart and can do some scary things, but tasking a pack of zombies to track us I never could've imagined.

Ever since that day seeing the zombies, we've done anything and everything we can think of to lose the zombie pack. From ditching all the clothes we were wearing to picking up new ones in a store. To cutting across rivers and paddling up rivers on canoes we found. The closer to Kansas City we get the better we feel about receiving help in dealing with them, as it seems killing them all is going to be the only way to finish it once and for all. It's going to take firepower we don't have to stop them.

There’s maybe a clip or two between the both of us and we don’t have enough time to search or loot for possibly more. I don’t know how we're going to be able to keep pushing ourselves at this pace and the more likely situation to occur is we stop in one spot, set up traps and fight. That's throwing a huge risk our way, but we aren't left with many options. If that is how things go down I can guarantee you blood will be spilt and some zombies are going to die by any means at our disposal. We're preparing ourselves for a hard-fought melee fight to the death. The next few days are going to determine our fate and we're prepared to face it.
