Shout! Factory Adapts Red Sonja: Queen of Plagues as Motion Comic Film

Red Sonja hasn't had as much success on the big-screen as her counterpart Conan the Barbarian, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't get her chances. Dynamite and Shout! Factory are teaming up to announce an adaptation of Red Sonja: Queen of Plagues by Gail Simone and Walter Geovani into a full-length, animated feature. Measuring 72 minutes in length and featuring voice acting (including the talented Misty Lee of Ultimate Spider-Man), sound effects, and music, the Red Sonja film transforms the seminal, epic comic book series' artwork into a thrilling experience of motion and sound. The film is available in Blu-Ray and DVD formats on August 2, 2016.

Dark Horse Comics Teams with Blizzard Entertainment for Overwatch Publishing Program

Dark Horse Comics and Blizzard Entertainment are the best of buds. One brings the comic book publishing savvy while the other brings video games that fans all over the world love to play. Ovewatch is the latter's latest phenomenon and now the former is developing a publishing program based on the game that consists of digital comics, a graphic novel and an art book. Dark Horse has already begun republishing a series of free digital comics by Blizzard Entertainment that further illuminate the characters and world of Overwatch. A number of eight-page digital comics are already available through Dark Horse’s digital comics platforms, with more currently in production and slated for release in the future.

A hardcover original Overwatch graphic novel has been slotted for release in April 2017. This brand-new entry in the Overwatch canon will contain one hundred pages of sequential artwork telling the story of the original Overwatch strike team. Summer 2017 will see the release of The Art of Overwatch, a stunning collection of never-before-seen concept art from the critically acclaimed game.

Dark Horse Announces New Serenity Installment

If you though Joss Whedon is just sitting around his home and twiddling his thumbs then you clearly don't know Joss Whedon. In addition to the recent announcement that Buffy Season 11 is in the works, Dark Horse has just announced another entry in the Serenity series in Serenity: No Power in the 'Verse. Serenity begins its next chapter with a story written by Chris Roberson and illustrated by Georges Jeanty. The first issue will hit stores October 26.

“I’ve been a devoted fan of Captain Reynolds and company since the first episode of Firefly aired,"said Roberson, "and have followed the exploits of the Serenity crew through TV, film, and comics ever since. Joss Whedon is one of the busiest creators in the industry and he's about to get even busier. Whedon and Dark Horse have just announced that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is hitting Season 11. Christos Gage and Rebekah Isaacs are teaming up for more shenanigans from the Scoobies. After overcoming the struggles of Season 10, Buffy and the Scoobies give themselves a well-deserved break from fighting evil. Unfortunately, the momentary peace comes to a screeching halt when a supernatural disaster wreaks havoc on the citizens of San Francisco, and the gang is forced to save the world from imminent doom, again.

“Buffy fans have been wonderful to Rebekah and me throughout Season 10," said Gage, "so I couldn’t be more excited to keep our creative team together for Season 11! Aspen Comics Announces SDCC 2016 Exclusives and Appearances

It's that time of year again when tens of thousands descend upon San Diego for SDCC 2016. Aspen Comics is going to be at the show at Booth #2320 with a ton of exclusives. Highlighting the host of exclusive items is the publisher’s release of their best-selling DC Rebirth AspenStore.com exclusive variants including Batman #1 and Justice League #1, and their Marvel Comics Amazing Spider-Man #15 AspenStore.com exclusive cover, in addition to their own Aspen Comics exclusives. The full roster of Aspen creators appearing at the Aspen Comics Booth #2320 includes Siya Oum, Jordan Gunderson, Paolo Pantalena, Tom Hutchison, J.T. Krul, David Wohl, Mark Roslan, Peter Steigerwald, Vince Hernandez, Frank Mastromauro, Nei Ruffino and Micah Gunnell. All creator appearances will be available at the Aspen Comics Booth #2320.

The Official Aspen Comics Panel 2016 will take place Friday from 11:00am – 12:00pm in Room 9 and will be hosted by none other than Jessica Nigri and Ani-Mia. The SDCC 2016 edition panel will feature a special first look at upcoming Aspen Comics titles as well as a special Q&A with fans with the aforementioned roster of Aspen Comics talent, and including Joshua Hale Fialkov and Hannibal Tabu. All panel attendees will also receive a free copy of an SDCC 2016 Panel Exclusive-only Art of Lola XOXO: Volume 1 featuring a cover by creator and panel guest Siya Oum.

Review - Throwaways #1 (@ImageComics)

People want what they can't have and that includes superpowers. The government especially will go great lengths to weaponize such powers and offer plenty of opportunity for double-crosses in order to do so. Throwaways #1 from Image Comics tells such a tale. For all the glory that comes with snagging a high-value intergalactic bounty, there's the in-between. Struggling to find work, scraping by to live and fending off rival hunters. As long as you've got someone you can trust though things are a little more bearable. Kim and Kim #1 from Black Mask Studio gives readers two characters who trust one another and rely on that trust to survive. Judge Dredd, Predator and Aliens are three behemoth characters in science fiction. It only makes sense that they all meet at some point right? Review - GFT Robyn Hood I Love NY #1 (@Zenescope)

"I'm moving forward. I really am."

In most eyes, living the life of fairy tale is all sunshine and rainbows. Some fairy tales aren't so happy though and Robyn of Zenescope fame doesn't really get to live a very happy fairy tale. And despite her best efforts in GFT Robyn Hood: I Love NY #1 from Zenescope, it looks like things won't get any easier for her. The issue is written by Lou Iovino, illustrated by David Lorenzo Riveiro, colored by Grostieta and lettered by Taylor Esposito.

Ursula Stormholder Goes Into the Suck

Ursula Stormholder was raised by pirates with a chip on her shoulder the size of Uranus, but for the right price, she just may save the universe. And in Into the Suck, writer Keith Thomas, artist CB Zane, colorist Oracle and letterer Kel Nuttel are giving her plenty of adventures to delve into. The story is a six issue miniseries that begins with her taking on a job to pick up and deliver a seemingly normal human (if a heavy set drunken frat boy can be considered normal) to her broker. When she returns with her prize, she finds her broker murdered and must now play a cosmic game of cat and mouse with her paycheck named Armando in tow as she seeks to discover who originally brokered the deal so that she can get paid.

Ursula Stormholder is the complete package: Beauty and the Beast. The daughter of the most feared pirate in space, she makes her living as a privateer. Pick up, delivery, and the occasional kidnapping are among the list of services she offers. While trying to make a living, she is also making a reputation for herself outside of her father’s shadow. It’s not necessarily a good one. In the process she is caught up in her love/hate relationship with her father, chased by the Royal Fleet and ultimately forced to lead a rescue, thwart a villainous foe bent of universal domination and save the galaxy… much like her father did years ago when he was a hero, before this area was the cold, dark, war ravaged place they call The Suck.

Review - Clarence: Quest #1 (@boomstudios)

There's sometimes a disconnect though between what they enjoy and what doesn't get them in trouble, but they persist in their ability to keep finding ways to succeed. Finding a teacher's cat is the goal in Clarence: Quest #1 from KaBOOM! Studios. The issue is written by Nick Cron-DeVico and lettered by Scott Maynard.
