Norse God of the Box Office

With superhero and comic book film adaptations being all the rage with the kids these days, it was only a matter of time before the "second tier" heroes got their due. And one of the biggest second tier heroes has got to be Thor. Thor has always been a powerhouse of a character in the Marvel Universe (he is a god afterall), but he's one of those characters that most comic book fans know little about (compared to say Batman or X-Men). E! Online reports that a Thor movie is in fact in development. Director Matthew Vaugn (Layer Cake, Stardust) will helm the movie, with Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) writing the screenplay. There are lots of names being bandied about to play the muscular blond (Karl Urban, Josh Holloway), but my vote has to be one of two fellow Lord of the Rings alum, Viggo Mortenson or Sean Bean. Stan Lee is ecstatic, I'm sure, as this makes yet another of his genius creations to get the star treatment in Hollywood. But this is first character that transcends the notion of mutant, as Thor is a god. "I wanted to come up with something totally different. I thought it would fun to invent someone as powerful as, or perhaps even more powerful than, the Incredible Hulk. But how do you make someone stronger than the strongest human? It finally came to me: Don't make him human—make him a god." Thor's Hammer and Hollywood
