Todd McFarlane's Spawn: Animated Collection (10th Anniversary Signature Edition)

I realize I'm a slight week or so behind on this news, but bear with me. Anyone that was at least teenaged in the 1990s know what a huge impact Todd McFarlane had on the comic world. The guy was everywhere. And probably one of his most famous creations period was (and still is) Spawn. The forever tormented hero was drawn extremely slickly, and everyone agreed that he was an overall badass. HBO premiered Spawn: The Animated Series on May 16, 1997, and here we are 10 years later with a 10th Anniversary Special Edition release of the hallowed series. The show itself only ran 2 years, and the special edition DVD comes on 4 discs. The technical specs are 1.66:1 aspect ratio, digitally remastered and with surround sound, so that should please at least the audiophiles in the room. Extras include audio commentary from McFarlane on select episodes, extended interview with McFarlane, behind the scenes featurette and the first episode's storyboard. There are also features that came with the Ultimate Edition of the series, thrown in for good measure. While most would admit that part of the reason the show worked so well was because FCC standards were lighter back then (so Spawn could really be as graphic/violent/coarse as it wanted) it was still a good representation of the comic. For those of you that already have a previous release of the series, be sure to check out the 10th Anniversary Edition. The attractive steel case will make your love of Spawn seem that much darker.
