Comeuppance for D&D
I never really understood how some people get so engrossed in anything that they neglect other aspects of life. I've heard of stories where Koreans die from 36 hour online gaming sessions, or kids that think they're vampires actually kill other people to satisfy their psychological lust for blood. But of course, the most famous "too caught up in fantasy gone bad" scenarios usually involve Dungeons and Dragons. And those cases usually don't end well for all involved.
GamesRush Entertainment reports that sadly (but rightfully so), a Reno, NV, couple has been sentenced for child neglect because they were so obsessed with the online game of Dungeons and Dragons they were playing. The children, a 22-month-old boy and an 11-month-old girl were found severely malnourished and close to death. The couple, Michael (25) and Iana (23) Straw had food in their house for their children, they just chose not to pause the damn game and give them the food.
They've been sentenced to 4 years in prison, and justifiably so. I don't like to use Omnicomic as a stepping stone for my soapbox, but this is ridiculous. As fans of comics, we have to make sure to remember that our collecting doesn't interfere with other aspects of our lives. I know that the majority of individuals out there have a sense of reality, and can pull themselves out of fantasy at least long enough to take care of human needs, which is good.
