The return of Dan Dare

Dan Dare is what you would call the pre-eminent science-fiction comic hero, with a slight British flair. He was created by Frank Hampson for an Eagle Comic story called Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future in 1950, and his tales were also broadcast a few times a week on Radio Luxembourg. And throw in Sir Richard Branson, and what do you have? The return of Dan Dare. Beginning in November 2007, Dan Dare will be published on a monthly basis by Virgin Comics, and written by Garth Ennis (Preacher, The Boys, Hitman). While Virgin Comics will be responsible for the new comic, the Dan Dare Corporation will maintain all film, animation and gaming rights. Dan Dare is the quintessential British hero. He’s our Captain America, our Superman, our Batman, he’s all of them rolled into one. He’s the original and the best.” said Garth Ennis, recipient of several National Comics Awards for the best in UK comics and Will Eisner Awards for the best in US comics. Dan Dare is an heroic, thoughtful and fiercely independent character; I was an avid reader of his epic journeys. It is a pleasure for Virgin Comics to be involved with such a legendary character – one of the original great aviators” said Sir Richard Branson. Dan Dare dares to return
