Marvel manga

So the inaugural New York Anime Convention has come and gone, and there were announcements a plenty. One of the bigger announcements had to do with Del Ray Manga and Marvel. IGN is reporting that Del Ray Manga is set to produce manga based on Wolverine and the X-Men, due out in Spring 2009. Each will have two volumes in 200 page, 5 1/2" x7" black and white books. And while they will maintain the characters from the Marvel Universe, they will not share any continuity with said universe, and will instead be stories true to manga form. The X-Men manga will be a shojo title that will be marketed towards teenage girls. Raina Telgemeier and Dave Roman will write the story, while art will be handled by ANZU (The Reformed). The Wolverine title will be more shonen, and Anthony Johnston will be writing. This could really be hit or miss. Yes, any good businessperson would tell you that its good business to commoditize what you have that's successful, but I don't know about this one. This could be Marvel's response to the news earlier this year about DC teaming up with CMX to bring manga to the states. Guess we'll see. Marvel goes manga
