Avengers: Earth's Mightiest TV show

I really don't think there's anything Marvel can do wrong nowadays. The once almost defunct Timely Comics has become a juggernaut when it comes to comics and is probably the biggest and most popular publisher around now (yes, even bigger than DC). Part of the reason for that is the diversification of the Marvel brand through a variety of avenues, including animation. Now Marvel isn't new to animation. They've had older animated X-Men and Incredible Hulk shows before, as well as my personal favorite in the animated Spider-Man series (seriously, the inner monologues that Peter Parker/Spider-Man grappled with in this cartoon rivaled those of the Wonder Years). And they've got newer shows in Wolverine and the X-Men. But with the recent meteoric rise in popularity of comic movies in general in addition to Robert Downey, Jr.'s masterful portrayal of Iron Man, fans wants more Marvel. Specifically more Avengers. To answer this cry, Marvel has just announced a new animated series in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. The series, currently in production but not expected to launch until 2011, will feature Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Giant Man and Wasp. Now you're not misreading that list and jumping to any wayward conclusions. Those members are indeed the one that Marvel is readying a bevy of films around culminating in an epic Avengers movie in the near future. So of course this is a tie-in, which is why the show won't be ready to air until 2011. But I think no matter how we get this stuff, its still awesome. "The addition of 'The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes' to our quickly expanding animation slate continues our plan to complement each of our tentpole live action features with an animated series," said Eric Rollman, President of Animation. "This new ensemble series tracks perfectly with our highly anticipated 'road to the Avengers' strategy which includes some of Marvel's biggest and most beloved characters, and which kicks off with two Avengers' themed feature films in summer 2011."
