Avengers taking on the Hulk?

The Incredible Hulk hit home theaters Tuesday, thrusting it back into the spotlight for a short while. Which means that we can renew speculation as to what to expect from the sequel to the film. But what if there is no sequel? I mean, The Incredible Hulk did alright in theaters; certainly not to the level of Iron Man but it fared well. Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige told MTV that while a Hulk sequel currently isn't being considered, there may be other plans for the Green Goliath. Such as pitting him against the Avengers. “Here’s the thing — it is all in the planning stages, but certainly if you look back to any number of ‘Hulk’ comics, or ‘Avengers’ comics, or ‘The Ultimates’ comics or the ‘Ultimate Avengers’ DVD that we released, it certainly makes a hell of a sequence.” Omnicomic (and various other news outlets) have long been lobbying for the villain in the Avengers movie to be the Hulk, as it makes perfect sense. You already have the scene with Tony Stark talking to General Ross, which theoretically occurs some time after Stark encounters Nick Fury. There will be no need to create a villain origin story, as people already know the Hulk is on the run. And this could even serve as a quasi-sequel for the Hulk, without committing excessive studio resources to it. I mean, you could release it as a Hulk movie, or as the Avengers movie. Obviously it would most likely be released as an Avengers movie, but still. Feige is right when he says that fight sequences between the Avengers and Hulk would be epic on the big screen. And if Hulk is the villain the first hour or so of the film can be committed to the forming of the Avengers, while the second hour is committed to fighting the Hulk. Sometimes this stuff just writes itself. Avengers taking on the Hulk?
