Goyer's latest word on Batman 3 rumors is: speculative

If you were in any remotely civilized location this past July, then most likely you saw The Dark Knight (and if you didn't then why are you reading this site or any other comics for that matter?). Since the movie essentially trounced the competition at the box office, rumors have been swirling (and I do means swirling) about next villains in the third movie. Writer David S. Goyer would like to let you in a little secret however: all of those rumors have no validity to them whatsoever. In an interview with MTV Movies, Goyer said that all the rumors about Catwoman, Jonny Depp as Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as Penguin are completely false. In fact, neither Christopher Nolan or Christian Bale have officially signed on for a third film (even though we all know its inevetible). "Chris and I haven’t even talked about it. He quite understandably is taking a long, long vacation and wants to purge himself,” Goyer said. “We have mused here and there [but] I mean Chris is pretty much a one movie at a time kind of guy,” Goyer said. “I wish I could tell you more. There really isn’t anything to tell.” I would expect to hear more news on the third film (it's going to happen) sometime next year. With the current Warner Brothers timeline, we should expect the third film to come out in 2011 (sticking with the every three year schedule), but that means that Nolan doesn't have to start doing anything with it until sometime next year at the earliest. Until then, I think we can expect more outlandish rumors such as Cher as Catwoman. Goyer on next Batman
