DC Universe Online due 2010
While Marvel is kicking ass and taking names on the movie front, DC is doing the same on the video game front. Marvel had their epic Marvel Universe game canceled due to creative differences, but DC is soldiering on with their DC Universe Online. And Geoff Johns has some information on the game's characters that he levied unto MTV Multiplayer.
“Lots of gamers create their own characters. Everyone knows Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, but this game gets you more entrenched in the universe. You meet the Metal Men, or Doom Patrol, and everyone gets a chance to embody something different. I like the idea that your secret identity is really outside the computer. You’re a normal guy, and then when you log on to the game, you become the superhero.”
We knew a while back that the game wouldn't let players be a specific DC character, because that would be an epic mess. But its a pretty cool twist that you'll still be able to encounter the characters that we all know and love without being them. Johns also mentioned that the game is due out in 2010 most likely. Maybe earlier if he doesn't jump off a building.
“It launches I think in early 2010, it could be late 2009. I’ve written the overall story and the path that gets you into the game and the areas of the universe and how to explore them, but not every line of dialogue. That’s a fulltime job, it’s too frigging big, too intense to write every line of an MMO. I’d probably jump off a building.”
This game definitely has potential. Hopefully there won't be too many 12 year-olds sullying our online communicators while playing the game.
