Marvel Pogs for the US Armed Forces

Do you remember what a pog is? Well if you were a kid in the 90s then you might remember the whole Pog craze. For those of you who don’t then here is a refresher about Pogs. A Pog is a disc that had an image on it, which you would then stack one another. You would then use a larger, heavier one called a "slammer" to slam the stack and all the ones that flipped over you kept. Recently, Marvel kicked it up a notch and started making Pogs with Marvel characters on them forshipping overseas. Where you ask? Well it seems that the military is using Pogs as money at bases in Iraq and Afghanistan since they can’t make money and it costs too much to ship coinage over to an active warzone. The Army Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES) has been using Pogs for currency since 2001 and they figured that soldiers returning would keep some as souvenirs. So they decided to spruce them up by first sending out requests to military personal to send in photos to be placed on the Pogs. This lead to such an overwhelming response that they sent over a list to Marvel of about 25 characters to be put on the Pogs. Included on that list were characters such as Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Silver Surfe, Captain America, Iron Man, She-Hulk and many more. You may be thinking "aweosme. I can relive my childhood now with Marvel Pogs!" Unfortunately, Marvel isn't planning on giving these out to civilians at all. The only way to get a hold of these sets is to join the military and get sent to Iraq or hope that some returning military personal are going to sell these on eBay. This might be something that might be better off being military only however, as it gives the brave men and women in the armed services a little something extra as incentive.
