Image United #1 moving along

Way back at last year's Comic Con in San Diego, a few folks you may have heard of got together and had a little jam session. Stop me if you know any of these folks: Marc Silvestri, Erik Larsen, Jim Valentino, Rob Liefeld, Whilce Portacio, and Todd McFarlane. Yeah, I thought so. As a result of this little reunion, it was announced that the six goliaths of the industry would be collaborating on a mini-series that would feature all of their respective characters crossing paths in some massive storyline. The series is called Image United #1, and Liefield has posted what is quite possibly the last you'll see about it until it's official release. On Liefield's Twitter feed, the above sketch it posted, along with the caption "Same shot, better resolution. Enjoy, it's all yer gettin for 6 weeks." This is somewhat telling for a couple of reasons. First, it says that come Comic Con we'll either get a slew of updates about the series, or it will actually debut. Second, it gives a good indication of some of the characters we can expect to see in the collaboration. Robert Kirkman is shepherding the entire project and is essentially the lead writer for the story. Not to say that there will be conflict among the others, but it's good to have at least one person at the top keeping things together and flowing. This is pretty exciting, considering that Image Comics could quite possibly be considered the definitive publisher of the 90s. While Marvel and DC were struggling to recapture their audiences, Image stepped up and became the "hip" publisher. So it's nice to see those creative heads getting back together, even if it is just for a mini-series.
