New Baby Productions and vampires

New Baby Productions is jumping on the vampire bandwagon. Not to say they're followers or anything, but vampires are all the rage these days so why not. Their entry into the fanged foray features a graphic novel adaption of another writer's vampire works. Vampire Apocalypse is the critically acclaimed novel series by Derek Gunn. The book was originally published in September 2006 but has since seen a film adaptation (currently in the works), so why not a graphic novel? “I'm really thrilled with this new direction as I always felt that (Vampire Apocalypse) really lends itself to this format,” stated Gunn. According to Gunn, “The stories are set in the near future in a world grown insular after a brief war has left the world depleted of resources. Fuel is rationed, states close their borders, communities die, and technology stagnates. As the world struggles to cope with these problems, the vampires come from the shadows and quietly begin to take over community-after-community. They offer power to those who will join them, and death to those who don’t. It doesn’t take long and, after a brutal but brief war, they take control. They use a serum and Thralls to control the population, wall the cities off, and breed humans as stock. The Thralls are humans who have been bitten but have not fully become vampires. They have enhanced speed and strength and guard the vampires during the day when they could be vulnerable.” The new adaptation will be scripted by CJ Hurtt, a writer that has managed to lend his talents to everything from mainstream to horror to political drama. His horror work has been featured in Lighthouse Magazine and Horrorfind.com, and you can find his comic work with Brainscan Studios in one Last Song. Gunn will also be helping with the writing, so he'll be able to lend his knowledge of the works. Gunn's membership in the International Thriller Writers Association and the Horror Writers Association may also help the book get crazy. Artist Federico Combi will be providing the art The graphic novel is scheduled for early 2011, so don't plan on getting this one any time soon. There will be mini-previews at various conventions throughout 2010, so at least there's that. Full press release below.
