Hank McCoy (Before the Fur)

I’ve been playing a lot of old video games. Can’t get enough of the classics. I mean 8-bit Nintendo, old. I’m a big Castlevania fan- is it just me, or is it really hard to find a bad Castlevania game? I mean sure, there’s one or two…but still. I remember reaching that point in Symphony of the Night where suddenly Trevor Belmont, Sypha and Grant doppelgangers came out of nowhere. You had to be a hardcore dork to recognize that these characters were from Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, the last NES incarnation of the series. Castlevania III was an excellent game- it heralded the first appearance of Alucard, who has kind of gone on to overshadow the Belmont clan in terms of ‘main character appeal’- what with the whole half-vampire turned vampire-killer thing being so popular these days. And yes, Alucard, the son of Dracula, has his father’s name, just spelled backwards. If you caught that, pat yourself on the back. Although not too hard- that isn’t exactly a subtle plot point. Anyway, stumbling around reliving the glory days on the internet brought me across something that kind of took me aback. Apparantly, a while ago, comic scribe Warren Ellis of Authority fame was slated to write a script for an animated production of Castlevania III. Yes, you heard me right- not Symphony of the Night, not the original Castlevania- the third game. But other than a few bits and pieces of information, I really don’t know if this project is still in the works or not. Anybody able to fill me in?
