Defense with the BoomStick
(Disclaimer: This post is set in a world where zombies have taken over and people live in small spots all over the world. It’s a weekly broadcast of news and a tip for survivors.)
It’s been a beautiful bit of weather around my parts that allowed for much needed repairs to be done. For my broadcast today I have some good news, but bringing a bit of bad to the party as well. No sense talking for too long. Let’s get to it.
I've gotten reports from a few outposts around the midwest that have seen an uptick in zombies passing by their places in addition to the ones that attack their defenses. Looks like maybe zombies from South America have been moving upward looking for food and that is not good for us at all. Be warned there might be huge herds of zombies out there so if you're on the run try and have scouts for your party and remember to keep a guard at night.
For the good news the government has been doing drops throughout the United States, leaving containers of guns and supplies for use by whomever finds them. It seems to be doing some good in the fight against the zombies, but also helping bandits out at times which isn’t good for anybody. Also, a safe town in Idaho has been broadcasting to let people know they are allowing survivors to come there. They’re located in northern Idaho and seem to be sounding legit in what they’re saying.
That’s all the good and the bad news for you now time for the tip. It has been brought to my attention that I do not discuss urban tactics too much in these broadcasts and I look to change that with this tip.
One of the main reasons I didn’t cover it that much is that it's pretty much suicide to be in an urban city, but if you find yourself here is what to do. They’re tough environments to operate in with too many tight places and spots to get trapped in making you dead. Your objective besides any supplies you might come across is to get out of the city as fast as you can to a safer place to rest and protect yourself. Avoid going into any tunnels at all cost, because the power is sure to not be working anymore and you will be at too much of a disadvantage.
Staying in the middle of the street helps and hurts you since it makes you visible to any zombies that could be looking at the street, but it aids you with more mobility and being able to get around zombies easier. If by chance you are living in a major city like New York, Boston, Los Angeles or D.C. and find your apartment or setup being attacked having an escape passage is crucial. If in an apartment building having a passage through the walls that lead to another building to get out of (or get to the roof) and have a plank to cross over to the next building. Another plus of the close quarters is the ability to build traps and walls by knocking down buildings or using rubble to help wall off streets giving you an added layer of defense.
That's all for today as always as more work that needs to be done. Until next week this is Brandon signing off.
