Defense with the BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is set in a world where zombies have taken over and people live in small spots all over the world. It’s a weekly broadcast of news and a tip for survivors.)

Here we have Monday again, a day that shows a new week is upon us and we have survived that much longer. Been a rough weekend with outages all around because of some severe storms that hit the area and we just finally got the power up and running again here. Even had some fires from the lightning striking a bunch of trees a few miles away from me, giving me more to worry about besides zombies. Enough of my problems as everyone has their own going against them. Let's get to the news and the tip.

News today is coming out of the Caribbean (more specifically Bermuda) that progress has been made securing more of the island. They have two secure locations on the island at both ends separated by a destroyed bridge. On one end is The Causeway leving the island portion with the airport cut off from the middle section. Survivors are mostly massed within the secure fence of the airport and using the surrounding parks to grow food and also have a secure place located in Saint George’s area.

The other side of the island has been cut off from the middle section by destroying the bridge located at the Somerset Bridge, with the key infrastructure located at Somerset Village working in conjunction with the other sectioned off island. Plenty of boats around makes fishing easy and survivors are working on getting a shipment of supplies together. They are taking the shipment to Cuba to a secure spot in Florida for us here in the United States as well to help out. If located within Florida the government is going to broadcast where they are going to do supply drops, so keep an ear out for those broadcast.

Now time for the tip of the week. For the tip today I will go over weapons that are a last resort option because a zombie is going to have to be close when you use these types.

Having a small back up pistol will work perfectly in this situation; only risk is the noise will attract more zombies to you. if you are handy with a knife a simple block move and a quick stab through the underside of the head will get the kill blow (just watch out for that mouth). When using the knife let the zombie come in and wait for it to reach out for you, then grab its arm and pull it forward and off balance, making it fall. Then stab it in the back of the neck pointing towards the brain to kill it. Make sure your knife is not serrated as it can get stuck in there if it is.

Another weapon to use is a staff. I know it sounds a little Ninja Turtle, but they can save your life and provided it’s sturdy enough it can bash the skull of a zombie in. This weapon isn’t for everyone though, because carrying it can be a pain; making a sling for it can assist in this though. These can be made out of many different things like wooden sticks. Or you can carve a board into a staff or use metal pipes even to make them as well. A good all-purpose weapon and tool as well, it will be your best friend when it comes to stopping a zombie at a distance and smashing its head in. Remember you might only get one shot as too much momentum may swing you right into its mouth.
