IDW Presents 5 Days to Die

If I really put my mind to it I could probably think of a lot of ways to die that take a long. IDW seems to be stuck at 5 though, with their latest comic due out in September called 5 Days to Die. The month long comic event is specially crafted for the five Wednesdays that happen to be in September (clever right?).

Written by Andy Schmidy and illustrated by Chae, 5 Days to Die follows Ray Crisara, a cop who has to make a really tough decision with only five days to live. Each issue will pit Ray against a new challenge after surviving a car accident, leaving him a widower to take care of his daughter, who's in critical condition. Ray is fairly confident the accident was a hit planned by the city's drug lord he's been chasing, and with the brain injury giving him five days to live and his daughter clinging to life, Ray has to decide whether he spends those five days with his daughter or pursuing the crime boss.

“The story really developed because I like old-school action thriller movies, full of noir and suspense,” said Schmidt. “Chee was the perfect artist to bring Ray’s heartache to life and he makes every punch, bullet, tackle, and hit leap off the page and smack you in the face. If you’re a fan of ‘Bullet’ or the original ‘Die Hard’ then this is the book for you.”

Each issue has a different artist doing the cover: David Finch does the honors for issue #1, Michael Avon Oeming is on issue #2, Ben Templesmith opens issue #3, Gabriele Dell’Otto for issue #4, and Pablo Raimondi rounds out issue #5. The first issue is due in stores September 1, with each successive issue the following Wednesdays of that month.

Full details after the jump.

Coming in September, IDW Publishing introduces an exciting, month-long comic event for this five-Wednesday month. Created and written by Andy Schmidt, with art by Chee, 5 Days to Die is timed specifically in a five-Wednesday month, bringing fans back to the comic stores each week. New York Times best-selling author David Morrell calls the weekly series “hard-hitting, suspenseful, and innovative.”
