New Arrivals: September 9, 2010

Short week, which means delayed comics. Instead of being shipped Wednesday the books will be shipped on Thursday. Doesn't really matter the day, as any day is a good day to check out Cuba: My Revolution from Vertigo Comics.

Cuba often gets lost in that whole "Fidel Castro" thing. Cuba: My Revolution is written by Inverna Lockpez and illustrated by Dean Haspiel (who also does the cover) focuses on 17-year-old Sonya, a medical student who dreams of becoming a painter but instead joins the militia. She's a volunteer medic at the Bay of Pigs where she's imprisoned and tortured by her own comrades. You can imagine that such an event would physically and emotionally scar someone, and as such Sonya searches for fulfillment in art. Eventually, she has to choose between her family, her lover and her beloved country.

Enjoy!
