Get a Free Sample of Kill Shakespeare

Anyone that's taken a high school English class should be well versed in two authors: Charles Dickens and William Shakespeare. The latter is so renowned that IDW has reimagined the spoony bard (Final Fantasy IV FTW!) and his famous characters in Kill Shakespeare.

IDW Publishing is offering the first two issues as free downloads. The works were originally print comics but now iTunes allows you to read about all of Shakespeare's characters in one action-packed adventure. There is a graphic novel available in print, but digital is the future! The work is created and written by Conor McCreery and Anthony Del Col and is a dark mash-up of all his characters.

"With the first two issues selling out, we're very excited that IDW has decided to give newcomers to Kill Shakespeare the chance to sample the first two issues" said McCreery. "The digital version is phenomenal so we're happy for new readers to discover us this way and we're confident that they will hook comic and Shakespeare fans alike and leave them wanting more."

Full press release after the jump.

Original series re-imagines the Bard and his most famous characters

Building on a very successful initial run in print comics, IDW Publishing is offering readers a chance to sample the beginnings of KILL SHAKESPEARE free for a limited time. Available through iTunes for the iPad™, iPhone® and iPod touch®, KILL SHAKESPEARE #1 and #2 set the stage for this thrilling tale that brings all of Shakespeare's most famous characters together for one action-packed adventure. The KILL SHAKESPEARE graphic novel is also currently available in print wherever books are sold, and additional issues of KILL SHAKESPEARE are available at comic stores and through the IDW Comics app on iTunes.

Conceived and written by Canadian-based creators Conor McCreery and Anthony Del Col, KILL SHAKESPEARE is a dark take on Shakespeare and his work, pitting his greatest heroes against his most menacing villains. Described as "gripping, violent and dark fun", by The New York Times and "fresh and conceptually inventive" by Publisher's Weekly, KILL SHAKESPEARE is true to the Bard's canon, yet also accessible to a wide range of readers. The series offers an edgy interpretation of Shakespeare's most famous characters, bringing Hamlet, Juliet, Othello, Richard III, Lady Macbeth, Puck and others together for an epic adventure. In the series' first graphic novel, readers encounter a banished Hamlet, who embarks on a quest to resurrect his dead father. But to do so, he must kill a reclusive wizard named... William Shakespeare...

Del Col and McCreery bring their love of Shakespeare, independent film, and a combination of marketing and writing experience to their first comic book project. Artist Andy Belanger rises to the challenge of interpreting some of the most famous characters in the world.
