Dark Horse Presents Femina and Fauna

Surrealism has often been defined as Salvador Dali, Max Ernst or Yves Tanguy.  There's probably a lot more surrealist artists out there that I'm unaware of, but that's what you get when you've never really dabbled in art.  Dark Horse has one more name to add to that list in Camilla d'Errico, as Dark Horse's new release Femina and Fauna collects Camilla's work to date.  The book is loaded with a comprehensive collection of works that folks all over the world have already been privy to and is perfect for any fan of pop art, manga and anime.

“The anticipation of having my own full sized art book has been building for several years, so to finally have Femina and Fauna released is an overwhelming experience” said d’Errico. “I couldn't have imagined the book being any better. Dark Horse has helped me fulfill a lifelong ambition and blown me away!”

Her work is actually pretty good and blends a sort of anime-ish look with vibrant colors.  She's done stuff for Dark Horse Comics, Image Comics, Random House, Tokyopop, Hasbro, Disney, Sanrio, Neil Gaiman and she also works with video game and movie companies on character development.   Somehow in all this she's managed to find time to create her own characters (Tanpopo and Helmetgirls) who have their own followings and requisite cosplay devotees.  Throw in her position at the upper eschelon of the New Contemporary art movement and her representation by the Opera Gallery of New York and you've quite the accomplished artist.
Femina and Fauna hits stores this Wednesday (January 26) for $22.99.  Full press release after the jump.

JANUARY 17, 2011, MILWAUKIE, OR– One of the brightest stars of pop surrealism, Camilla d’Errico is not only a highly accomplished painter and comic book artist, but also a designer of clothing, toys and other products. Playful and flamboyant, exotic and enigmatic, the women who inhabit these striking paintings embody a fascinating array of contradictions.
