Aspen Solicitations July 2011
It's the middle of May, which means it's time for Aspen solicitations in July. That's right. What fine works of fiction does Aspen have in store for you then?
Haunted City #0 for starters, written by Peter Johnson and illustrated by Michael Ryan (colors by Peter Steigerwald). Detective Tom Whalen is a lifer on the force, but all of his experience might not prepare him for a journey through the supernatural in new York City. Haunted City #0 will feature an additional sketchbook section and never before seen art. The book hits stores July 6.
Executive Assistnat: Iris Vol. 2 #1 will be in stores the same day and is written by David Wohl and illustrated by Eduardo Francisco (colors by Sunny Gho). It kicks off Aspen's first ever intra-series event, "The Hit List Agenda." A brand new corporate power player has emerged in the wake of Ching’s death and Iris’ disappearance, but this time, it is no man calling the shots, but a woman—Diane Coverdale. Coverdale needs some defense like everyone else and enlists Executive Assistant: Acteia.
Naturally, if it's an intra-series event you need other books to mix it up with. The first of these is Executive Assistant: Orchid #1 by Scott Lobdell and illustrated by Micah Gunnell (inks by Rob Still and colors by David Curiel). Ramos Cordova leads a powerful drug cartel in a small, poverty stricken Colombian village in South America, leading to Executive Assistant: Orchid to take on this kingpin in helping her master and his son Umberto. This issue hits stores July 13.
Executive Assistnat: Lotus #1 is the second of the crossover books and is written by Vince Hernandez (illustrated by Oliver Nome and colored by Emilio Lopez). The turmoil in South Asia erupts into chaos as “The Hit List Agenda” sets its sights on the Republic of India. Amidst the bloodshed of a devastating attack on the Israeli Embassy, one woman’s actions will force the government’s hand in inching towards a potential war with a rival nuclear superpower—Executive Assistant Lotus. This one hits stores July 20th.
Executive Assistant: Violet #1 (picking up the theme here?) is written by Mark Andreyko and illustrated by Pop Mahn (art by John Starr). This one takes place in England where Henry Vincent, the heir to the Velchem fortune, decides to protect his wealthy corporate interests with force. Cue Executive Assistant: Violet. July 27th.
Two more books of the non Executive Assistant variety will also hit stores in July. Fathom Vol 4 #3 is written by Scott Lobdell and illustrated by Alex Konat (Beth Sotelo on colors). A frustrated Aspen arrives in Saudi Arabia at the request of scientists from an international conference of deep-sea researchers. She realizes her refuge from America thrusts her back into the depths in search of oil reserves which ends being a tad on the catastrophic side. This one hits stores July 20th.
Finally, Charismagic #4 continues to redefine your notions of magic. Written by Vince Hernandez and illustrated by Khary Randolph (colors by Emilio Lopez), Charismagic #4 has Hank, Sudana and Sparkles venturing through Costa Rica in search of the wizard Kon for help. En route they encounter The Guardians, magical panthers tasked with protecting the temple of Kon. In the Void Realm, Hector and Alle’s capture by a mystical shaman will provide a glimmer of hope to the pair stuck in the hellish landscape of the Void, but will they be able to survive in order to enjoy it? This one hits stores July 27th.
Full solicitations and covers after the jump.
