Defense with the BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is set in a world where zombies have taken over and people live in small spots all over the world. It was a weekly broadcast of news from around the globe and a tip to help survival, but now I have been bitten and partially cured now searching for a full vaccine.)

I thought that maybe zombies were actually on the decline, slowly dying off, not be replenished with new ones as the number of survivors to be turned has been reduced. During this past week after leaving that storage facility survivor camp I came across something that completely changed my outlook on that topic.

At first I encountered a couple of zombies here and there as I went through the woods, which gradually grew into slightly larger groups until I got to a clearing at the outer edge of the woods where I saw them. Just one large sea of zombies in this open area as far as the eye could see just milling around creating this loud droning sound as they were all moaning. I have never heard of this many zombies spotted in one place and for the life of me I can’t figure out why they would all be grouped here.

With so many zombies packed together I tried to push my way into the pack to start off an idea. The idea was to try and get into the middle and set off a combination of homemade pipe bombs and gas cans to blow up or light on fire a good number of zombies. With them all being so close together I thought that the fire would spread a lot faster between the zombies, but because they were so packed I couldn’t get anywhere near the center.
Instead I rigged up a slingshot and use it to toss the pipe bombs and some Molotov cocktails into the horde and did manage to accomplish my goal somewhat. The oddest thing happened after the fire got raging though. In some parts of the horde the zombies cleared a path away from the ones burning as if the fire drove them away.

I can’t see this being the case as a zombie would walk through fire if they saw something they thought was edible. The fact that a bit of fire seems to have chased them away is all the more confusing and I think some of the zombies were noticing me and that has never happened before. Since I was bitten and partially cured zombies have paid me no mind as I traveled, but after starting the anarchy in that horde a few kinda stared at me and followed for a bit before moving off a different way.

That's sending a mixed message as maybe I'm actually being fully cured and seeming more alive to them than before. Or maybe they can recognize threats now. There was a good number still about on the far side I didn’t get to light a flame for. Anyone listening to this transmission who has the means to bomb from above do so and take care of these guys.

At the moment I have to get a move on so I don’t get lost in a sea of zombies. Until next week keep surviving.
