Aspen Comics Wants You for Idolized

Talent shows and competitions are nothing without their audience. If it's not Paula Abdul drunkenly slurring her way through a talent evaluation then it's someone like Simon Cowell dashing the hopes and dreams of a rising starlet. The point is that it's hard to be an idol; so hard that Aspen Comics needs some help finding one.

Idolized is a brand new series set to debut in 2012 that tells the story of a girl with superpowers and a dark past, seeknig revenge over the course of competing in a televised superhero competition. Fans get to have a say in how the characters in the book will look.

"Idolized is filled with a rich universe of incredibly well rounded characters. Characters with true depth and emotion, people who, despite their amazing powers, feel honest and authentic,” said Aspen’s Editor-in-Chief Vince Hernandez. “But while we know what each of these characters acts like, we don’t know yet what they look like.”

“For each character, our incredible artist Micah Gunnell gives us three different ‘looks’ to choose from. But for this series, instead of us selecting among the looks, we’ve decided to open it up to the fans, and let them decide. We expect that it’ll be a tough competition, because all of the visual designs Micah’s been cooking up look absolutely amazing.”

Beginning today, readers can go to http://www.facebook.com/IdolizedComic to view and vote on what each of the Idolized cast of characters will look like. Each Monday, Aspen will be posting a new set of character designs for readers to vote on. The following Monday, a new set of characters will be posted, and the voting for the prior week’s characters will be locked.

“Aspen has so many incredibly supportive fans, and we’re always looking for new and exciting ways to reach out to them and engage them,” said Aspen President Frank Mastromauro. “Actually giving them the chance to help craft a new Aspen series seemed like an exciting, unique and unprecedented way to let them be a part of Aspen’s future.”

The title is written by David B. Schwartz and illustrated by Micah Gunnell and colored by David Curiel. Cue obnoxious outro music as we cut to commercial.

“IDOLIZED” is Aspen's first-ever superhero series. It tells the story of girl with super-powers and a dark past, who seeks revenge, and ultimately finds redemption, over the course of competing in a televised super-hero competition show. Essentially, it’s “True Grit” meets “American Idol”…with capes. The series is written by David B. Schwartz (acclaimed writer of Image Comics’ “MELTDOWN”, “Aspen Showcase: Ember” and “Fathom: Blue Descent”), with explosive art by Micah Gunnell (“Shrugged”, “Executive Assistant: Orchid”, “Dellec”) and colors by David Curiel ("Executive Assistant: Orchid"), and will debut in mid 2012.
