Defense With the BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight after being bitten and partially cured to walk as a half-zombie among them.)

When you catch one break it only means you have some bad news coming your way.

Well, bad news hit us in stride with one bad stroke after another and I want to say the only bit of good news is that we're on land. Back to the bad news.

It all started about Tuesday night after some time chugging along the outside of Long Island and heading towards the coast of Rhode Island. All of sudden we heard this loud banging sound and the tug boat shook pretty violently.

Looking over the side in our wake I saw we hit a partially submerged wreck of a ship and I don’t know how we missed it, but we've hit it. Now there's water coming in down below, only adding to the bad news.

I swear time is never frakking on our side as we race to put this boat closer to land so we don’t drown and lose all of our gear in the process. Jamming the throttle as far forward as possible we gun it for the coast and surprisingly we get some speed out of this old tugboat.

The other guy got all the gear together he could muster because when we hit land we're going to have to leave fast. I see a stretch of beach in the distance and aim right for it with plans to beach the boat--the only option as I don’t see any docks around.

If you thought hitting a beach at full speed would be easy it isn't at all. Hitting that sand threw everything in the air--us included--and smashed some gear in the process too. Days just can’t get any better as we sat on the beach catching our breath before gathering up what stuff was still working and not waterlogged to get the hell out of the area before anybody shows up.

Being on this side of the wall in the government stronghold gives us no clue as to what to expect. I haven’t heard any news about the condition on the ground here, such as whether they are still in control or if there are zombies.

No matter what we needed to get moving and started heading northwest. The last report I heard awhile back said that most installations were located in southern Vermont. It’s going to be a long trek again...
